Workshop 2: Working with Costume for Actors

  • The Annex 523 South Street London, ON, N6B 1C4 Canada (map)

Sunday, February 3 from 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm OR
Wednesday, February 6 from 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm

It takes thousands of hours to bring a show's wardrobe to life. In this workshop we'll take a look at what goes into costuming a show, and how costume affects character, and the actor process. Led by award-winning costume designer Whitney Bolam, who has designed costumes for several LCP shows (Beauty and the Beast, Twelfth Night, Steel Magnolias, Mame, etc.). She’ll teach you about her design process, what it’s like to work with a director’s show concept, and what goes in to pulling together the look of a show. You’ll also learn about costume etiquette, what's expected of performers, and how to work with your costume on stage. Discover how costume pieces become partners in performance, and how they impact you as an actor. In this section you’ll work with costume pieces from the LCP Wardrobe, develop a character narrative, and explore how movement and attitude can be impacted by an article of clothing.

This New Stage Workshop Series is held at the London Community Players Annex Space at 523 South St. Each workshop begins promptly at its indicated start time. The building will be open a minimum of 30 minutes beforehand. Please take weather into account, and arrive with enough time to get settled before the beginning of the workshop itself.

You may wish to bring a pen and notebook, water, and a sweater if you're prone to getting chilly.

Not in New Stage, but interested in the workshop?

LCP Members can register for $25, and non-members for $50. Subsidies available upon request.

Workshops spaces are only available for purchase online on a first come-first served basis. If you do not have an existing customer profile, you will need to fill one out before making your workshop purchase, including an active email address. You will receive information and correspondence regarding the workshops via email.

If the workshop you wish to attend happens to sell out before you can register, don’t despair! In the event this happens we will create a waitlist. If you wish to be placed on a waitlist for sold out New Stage workshops, you will need to email program coordinator Kaitlyn Rietdyk here. We will not be accepting waitlist requests via phone or facebook messenger.
